Great start. No way Rubio is wrestling 160 (if he wrestles). He just wrestled 145 in Fargo and was only wrestling 160 because SS had a hole there. Also, Rees beat Hann at state (with a broken foot) but got beat by Stevenson his first match (where he broke his foot). 170 and 182 are such a crap shoot. Any one of 6 guys could have won it at 170. Now that Doolen has graduated and some 170's will be going up 182 will likely be the same this year. Also I don't know the kid from Alahambra at 170 but with a 6-9 record I wonder why you have him ranked.

So Ybarra and Garcia (both at SS) wrestled at 113 this past weekend. Loaiza was at 120...and they have a little stud named James Brown who hopefully gets his attitude under control coming in at 106. Hmmm... good problem to have but something has to give. I added little J brown to the 106. He will be an immediate contender if they can fit him in the line up. SS will be dominate again from 106 to 138 (assuming Roro or A Rodriguez will fill in at 138).

I would guess Hollen from MTV would be at 182 this year. He just finished top 8 at 184 in Fargo and was about 15 pounds under weight at 195 last year.

Any guesses on team rankings?

Not sure about Alanis, but if he is there WOW. No doubt SS will run away with it this year.

As for teams....
1.SS
2.SS JV (lol....just kidding)
2. Cibola
3. Chandler (if the Grove bros are there.....can anyone confirm?)

Wrstlingfan....Well duh....come on man. Ok, so now that you listed his experience does my WOW stand up for itself....lol. My comment was more about the fact that he is not enrolled yet....hmmm. Can you confirm he is enrolled?

Alanis is enrolled at Sunnyside.

No apologies needed...I get it. But that is some serious news. Another WOW...lol. Alanis was the only AZ kid in MS to beat Ybarra several times. I don't see J Brown making the line up (and that is crazy cause the kid could possibly be a freshman state champ). Probably Alanis, Ybarra, Garcia, Loaiza, Rodriguez, RoRo, Rubio, Rees....all going to be state contenders. And a few other good big guys (220 and HWY). I don't see many other school able to keep up. Hopefully everyone stays healthy. Can't wait.

I was just being funny and know that these rankings are just for fun, i also wasn't trying to insult you in any way but if i did i apologize...
108 Benji Alanis
115 Jessie Ybarra or James brown
120 James brown or jessie Ybarra
126 Vicente Loiza
132 manny Garcia
138 rby
145 Aaron Rodriguez
152 Jose Rubio
Bayoubadger can you help with the heavier part of line up?
This just how im looking at it right know, of course it may change in Jan.
IMO
160 Elija Wyatt
170 Sebastian Mordecai (Yes you read that correctly)
182 Matt Rees
195 Orlando Sotelo
220 ????
HWT Adrian Monreal

Oh my Allah....lol. Mordecai is back? Great job Leon! He has definitely put a serious National level team together. You can add EJ Gonzales in at 220. Kid is a little beast and has national level experience. And how can I forget about Wyatt. SS will dominant, unless there is a school who got 4 national level transfers coached by Larkin....lol.

Be careful with insinuating that Leon has recruited (I am sure that was not your intention). A vast majority of the kids live in SS School District. Its about building a strong youth program. We chose SS when we moved here from out of State, because of the legacy. Never talked to Leon until after kid was enrolled. SS doesn't need to recruit. Good wrestlers want to go there.

Good point bayoubadger.....in no way was I trying to implicate recruiting. I was simply speaking on his coaching ability. Not only his coaching, but his ability to develop great relationships with his athletes and students. I do know him, not too close, but I know he is well aware of AIA rules and follows them to a T. I do agree that a great program with a great legacy will attract top athletes. You are definitely correct in that SS never needs to recruit and NEVER does. Again, definitely my bad and want to clarify my statements. The world of online chatting and misunderstanding. So much for trying to have fun conversation.

I have been dying to chime in on this page. Great stuff! First I agree with whenindoubtchokemout on the team rankings. I added a few.
My top 8
1. Sunnyside
2. Cibola
3. Corona
4. Chandler
5. Mesa Mt. View
5. Tucson
5. Desert Vista
5. Desert Ridge

I believe that this year it is Sunnyside’s championship to lose! They do have a great team. You still have to wrestle the matches. (Ask Corona about that) I sound like a broken record but your big men make a huge difference! It’s not wise to believe SS will go 7 for 7 & win championships at the first 7 weight classes. (They have the ability) There are some studs from other teams that will have something to say about that. SS is the favorite but D1 is a grind. SS has been at D1 for 7 years & won 2 titles. I don’t think they are down it’s just tougher. They have the team that can do it this year no doubt. They are really hungry too. If you are bringing Mordecai back then you are hungry!

You make me laugh talking about recruiting. If any team could have had the Seton transfers last year they would have! You are lying if you said you wouldn’t. Anyone would have taken the Groves brothers, Josiah Kline, Rico, Kuhna, Wokasch, The Taylor brothers or Marcus Castillo! In a heart beat. That is just how it goes. I’m not saying those teams recruited them. I’m also not saying they didn’t. I am also not saying I have a problem with anyone. If it’s done within the rules what can you say.

Everyone recruits. Some recruit the kids in their elementary school & Jr Highs. (As they should) Instead of building some actually look for transfers. The smart ones build their youth programs & transfers want to come. If a few transfers put you over the top you had a good program. The water gets murky when you have HS coaches working at lets say I don’t know uh Sunkist for example. Then allstar Jr High feeding programs start popping up or kids just miraculously start going to their school when there is no real reason or feeder program. Then it’s interesting. When they are low key about it I understand but to be blatant isn’t wise. I’m not singling anyone out there are tons of great coaches that work there & at tons of other clubs. It’s when people abuse their positions that we have to worry.

SS will be the team to beat for sure. Can’t wait to watch this year!

I herd James brown is only walking around at 108-110 lbs. Dont think he's big enough for 115, certainly not 120

I think I will redo some weight classes to include some new weights, and add the Groves bros, Alanis, Mordecai, anyone else we should consider?

Forget what you heard dude, i know for a fact he's a lil bigger than that lol...
Just checked my sources! My source in Tucson said Your right he is a little bigger than 110 lbs. I also herd that the Alanis kid is injured and is too big for 106lbs. So where does he fit in the line up? If Ybarra is the 113, 120 Vicente L. Or Garcia. Either way it would be tough to crack that lineup.

What about the Groves brothers in your rankings? how is Marco Rivera not in the top 6, he was a state champion 2 years ago. Never heard of the #5 and #6 wrestler @ 113
