    2020 Wrestling USA Magazine All-Americans

Congratulations as well to Beau Bartlett (All American) and Aaron Gandara (honorable mention). While they are obviously great wrestlers, both Beau and Aaron are excellent students who finished their education in PA and CA, respectively.

    2020 - 2022 Wrestling - Boys Alignments (DIVISIONS 3-4)

You are correct. In the last block Notre Dame was placed in D2 as part of a general plan to move private schools up one conference. So even though ND’s enrollment would have put them in D3, they were placed in D2 via their conference affiliation. This year, placement was driven by a...

    2020 - 2022 Wrestling - Boys Alignments (DIVISIONS 1-2)

Hi JB, in all other sports you are correct, but in wrestling the divisions and sections were set much later, so the appeals process has not run. To my knowledge only 2 schools have appealed and want to move from D3 to D4.

    Realignment?

    Agreed. Over the past 5 years, here are the schools who finish in the top 3 on average: Sunnyside - 1 Liberty - 2 Morenci - 2 St Johns - 2 Yuma - 3 Marana MV - 3 Cibola - 3 Safford - 4 Mesa MV - 4 Show Low - 5 Walden Grove - 5 Desert Vista - 5 Division 3 has 4 of the states most successful...

    Realignment?

That was the exact reasoning applied in D1. If you look at the last 5 years, the strongest section was the west, with Liberty, Cibola, Kofa, and Boulder Creek. All four of these schools finished in the top 10 on average. The Yuma schools have great programs. Besides the two mentioned above...

    Realignment?

Regarding Page. Page’s representative on the wrestling committee requested this alignment and voted for it. Page is remote and has to drive for hours no matter which section it is placed. The thought is that in the winter it is better to have a drive on I-17 to Phoenix rather than drive for...

    Realignment?

I agree. I would be great to see Maryvale return to its former glory and watch Carl Hayden put together a full team of athletes, which could happen. But then the other sections would be very tough with each looking like the West last year. Look at the list of schools Azallstars put together...

    Realignment?

Yes. Rather than dividing the schools into equal quarters where each division would have 52 schools, the committee recommended the following: D1 - 48; D2 - 48; D3 - 52; and D4 - 60+. The rationale is that the D1 and D2 schools should be able to field full teams at sectionals while not all...
