Does it matter who the “best” state champion is? And if it does matter, why does it?
How many of our 4 time state champions in recent history (2000- present) wrestled in college? How many wrestled for 4 years in college?
Money isn’t an issue with the AIA. They can easily afford referees for woman’s freestyle.
Preparing our girls for college is the objective. So having their season be strictly freestyle should be happening.
First off, this weekends event was amazing. It’s a step in the right direction and it gave every kid in the state the opportunity to challenge themselves vs the top competition.
To recap the season let’s shares some ides that will improve next years wrestling season. It would be great to share...
I was speaking in general and referring to the other threads. I should have made it clear. I agree with everything you stated. Share ideas and made progress.
I don’t understand why everyone in our state knocks the progress we’ve made.
In the past 10-15 years, Arizona as a state have greatly improved.
• there’s no more match cap limits for Hs wrestling and we added a 5th tournament.
• we now have 2 JH state tournaments.
• we now have a full USA...
If this event if ran well, it will continue to grow. It’s a great start and going forward, more and more wrestlers will want to be apart of it.
This event has so much potential. Thanks for putting it together.
Arizona schools wrestle out of state, just like out of state teams who aren’t apart of the AIA wrestle in Arizona events not including sections or state.
Have you check what the bylaws state? I don’t have this years copy.
If I stand correct, invitationals and duals are open to everyone. Out of state teams and private schools can participate.
Only schools that participate in the AIA are permitted to wrestle at sectionals and state.
Give Valiant another 2 years and they will be amongst the best in Arizona...
Maybe Valiant should wrestle at Peoria, Flowing Wells or Mike High. They can if they want to.
Not taking anything away from Valiant but they’re not attending these tournaments for a reason.
What’s everyone’s thoughts on adding the 200 lbs weight class?
Majority of the tournaments during the season and Tempe state has the 200 lbs weight class. I think that would be a great addition to your tournament.
