Window Rock High School’s 2nd Annual Veteran’s Memorial Wrestling Invitational on 18-19 December 2015.
This tournament will be held again at the Bee Hółdzil (Stronghold) Fighting Scouts Events Center and it saw great success in its initial tournament in 2014. Defending AZ Div IV State Champion Camp Verde HS was the tournament champion, following by Mountain Pointe, Window Rock, and Chinle to round out the top four teams.
Teams: First 18 teams to be determined upon acceptance of our invitation
FORMAT: Team duals and individual medal tournament. 18 teams will be divided into 2 pools of nine teams in a series of duals, five duals per team on Day 1 and four on Day 2. Following the intra-pool duals, top teams from each pool will wrestle for dual placings in corresponding rankings. The top three wrestlers from each pool will advance on to the medal rounds in the same fashion. Every wrestler will have a minimum of 9 matches, with medalists wrestling 10 matches. We will wrestle on four mats, with six available total.
ROOM/ BOARD: In addition to local hotels in Window Rock or Gallup, the WR Events Center floor is available for teams to camp out, showering will also be available
PROGRAM INFORMATION: The tournament programs are in the process of being completed at this time. VERY IMPORTANT!!! We are requesting that you please fax us a roster of your wrestling team along with their current records by Tuesday, December 15, 2015. Also very important - Please include your team record and any tournament places your team may have earned for the 2014-2015 season. This will help us in determining the pools for the tournament. We would like to request that you fax or this to us at (928) 729-7661 by December 15, 2015 to allow sufficient time to prepare our programs. You may also e-mail me with this information.
AWARDS: Team trophies for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place (based on dual point system and individual medal match results). Individual medals for 1st through 6th place in each weight class. Most Outstanding Upper and Lower weight class individual plaques (as voted by the coaches). Team Sportsmanship Plaque (as voted on by the referrees). Medals to be presented by WRHS Dineh Club. T-shirts to individual champs.
FEES: $325 for varsity, $100 for JV ($425 for both teams)
$50 for Midschool/ Jr. High team (*fee is waived for any school paying $425)
CONCESSIONS: Food, Drinks, and T-shirts will be on sale throughout the tournament.
