D1 2019-2020 Individual Rankings (updated on 1/27)

Updated after another week of duals and tourneys. Since we are getting close the postseason, I'm going to include the section that each wrestler is in.

106

1. Jayson Flener, Liberty, 9th (Section 2)
2. Damian Moreno, Kofa, 9th (Section 2)
3. Caidan Cole, Boulder Creek, 10th (Section 2)
4. Joey Jarman, Mesa, 9th (Section 4)
5. Daniel Mendoza, Perry, 12th (Section 1)
6. Javier Duran, Cesar Chavez, 12th (Section 4)

Mendoza with a surprising loss to Highland, so I'm switching him and Jarman. Hard to justify moving anyone up over any of these guys IMO.

113
1. Zander Phaturos, Liberty, 10th (Section 2)
2. Julian Ayala, Kofa, 10th (Section 2)
3. Demarko Gomez, Cibola, 10th (Section 2)
4. John Jarman, Mesa, 11th (Section 4)
5. Jaden Galindo, Cesar Chavez, 10th (Section 4)
6. Peyton Anderson, Mesa Mountain View, 11th (Section 4)
7. Michael Welle, Red Mountain, 12th (Section 4)
8. Porter Ray, Desert Ridge, 12th (Section 3)

Anderson with a good week in duals, beating Jarman and Welle, with Jarman defeating Welle handily as well. Jarman/Galindo/Anderson hard to rank because they've all beaten each other, but ranking based on Jarman's performance last year, him having the most dominant win out of the group (a pin over Galindo), and Galindo having 2 victories over Anderson. Also of note is Corrales and Ray from Desert Ridge flopping weights at 113/120.

120
1. Zach Espalin, Chandler, 11th (Section 1)
2. Noah Kasprowicz, Boulder Creek, 11th (Section 2)
3. Roman Provenzano, Liberty, 10th (Section 2)
4. Cesar Avelar, Brophy, 10th (Section 1)
5. Anthony Gonzales, Corona, 12th (Section 3)
6. Gabe Ortiz, Mesa Mountain View, 12th (Section 4)

126
1. Carson Coy, Liberty, 10th (Section 2)
2. Juan Sierra, Cibola, 10th (Section 2)
3. Bryce Bernard, Valley Vista, 12th (Section 3)
4. Cael Figueroa, Highland, 12th (Section 3)
5. Isaiah Valenzuela, Hamilton, 12th (Section 1)
6. Jaxon Rohde, Boulder Creek, 12th (Section 2)

Moving Bernard to 3 with win over Figueroa last week, but I think 3-5 here are all pretty even.

132
1. Andres Avelar, Cesar Chavez, 12th (Section 4)
2. Andrew Correa, Liberty, 12th (Section 2)
3. Tanner Castillo, Red Mountain, 12th (Section 4)
4. Mourece Ramirez, Desert Vista, 11th (Section 3)
5. Preston Ferrell, Hamilton, 12th (Section 1)
6. Gunnar Luke, Mesa Mountain View, 10th (Section 4)
7. Victor Chavez, Cibola, 11th, (Section 2)

Adding Luke after making semis at Peoria and winning the Pack tourney, and Chavez who has made his way down to 132. Also looks like Avelar is going to stay at 132 after barely missing weight and still winning Peoria at 138.

138
1. Tyler Sauter, Liberty, 10th (Section 2)
2. Jonah Muhammad, Hamilton, 11th (Section 1)
3. Ben Torres, Cibola, 12th (Section 2)
4. Mark Prado, Shadow Ridge, 12th (Section 3)
5. Dalton Loyden, Chandler, 9th (Section 1)
6. Denton Hardt, Queen Creek, 12th (Section 3)
7. Kaleb Pool, Tucson, 11th (Section 1)
8. Hugh Sterns, Sandra Day O'Connor, 12th (Section 2)

Torres and Prado both had good weekends defeating Loyden, even though both matches could have gone the other way (close call at end of Prado match, Loyden leading before getting pinned vs Torres). I still think Sauter is the #1 guy here, but anyone 1-8 could put together a good tournament and win it. Will definitely be the most fun weight to watch in a few weeks.

145
1. Zeke Guerrero, Cibola, 12th (Section 2)
2. Edgar Delgado, Liberty, 12th (Section 2)
3. Matthew Andonov, Sandra Day O'Connor, 12th (Section 2)
4. Adam Booth, Mesa Mountain View, 12th (Section 4)
5. Tlayolot Delfin, Dobson, 12th (Section 4)
6. Shane Aguarin, Corona, 12th (Section 3)

Nothing of note, but weigh ins suggest that Blakeman may be dropping to this weight.

152
1. Alfonso Martinez, Desert Vista, 12th (Section 3)
2. Nicholas Steele, Cibola, 11th (Section 2)
3. Anthony Morales, Kofa, 12th (Section 2)
4. Connor Blakeman, Red Mountain, 12th (Section 4)
5. Gage Beaton, Liberty, 12th (Section 2)
6. Chayce Edwards, Tucson, 12th (Section 1)
7. Kalvin Boggs, Queen Creek, 12th (Section 3)

160

1. Kamyn Stonebreaker, Liberty, 12th (Section 2)
2. Giovanni Meza, Cesar Chavez, 12th (Section 4)
3. Sebastian Valencia, Cibola, 12th (Section 2)
4. Jacob Cisneros, Boulder Creek, 11th (Section 2)
5. Caleb Milnes, Perry, 11th (Section 1)
6. Jarrett Huber, Mesa Mountain View, 9th (Section 4)

Most notable thing here is Milnes dropping down from 182 earlier in the year. He had wins over 2 of the top ranked 182 pounders (Pedregon and Dunn) so will probably make some noise down at this weight.

170
1. Preston Cameau, Desert Vista, 12th (Section 3)
2. Freddy Latu, Hamilton, 12th (Section 1)
3. Ikaika Maldonado, Perry, 12th (Section 1)
4. David Sweetman, Brophy, 9th (Section 1)
5. Keaton Steck, Desert Ridge, 12th (Section 3)
6. Nicholas Magri, Liberty (Section 2)

182
1. Matthew Stevenson, Liberty, 12th (Section 2)
2. Makai Obregon, Valley Vista, 12th (Section 3)
3. Wayne Dunn, Mesa Mountain View, 12th (Section 4)
4. Thomas Derr, Brophy, 12th (Section 1)
5. Cesar Pedregon, Red Mountain, 12th (Section 4)
6. Yousef Sadi, Tucson, 12th (Section 1)

Good week for Dunn, with wins over Pedregon and Mark Orlando (Shadow Mountain), who has a win over Derr. There are a handful of people I could put at #6, all who have both some decent wins and some head-scratching losses, but I'm putting Sadi here because I personally think he's the best out of the group from what I've seen.

195
1. Kimball Begay, Mesa Mountain View, 12th (Section 4)
2. Liam Hoffmeyer, Cibola, 11th (Section 2)
3. Ryan Castillo, Hamilton, 12th (Section 1)
4. Preston Arriola, Mesa, 12th (Section 4)
5. Gavin Dodge, Liberty, 10th (Section 2)
6. Bobby Brookins, Red Mountain, 12th (Section 4)
7. Rueben Maldonado, Cesar Chavez, 12th (Section 4)
8. Michael Moreno, Boulder Creek, 12th (Section 2)
9. Christian Bower, Chaparral, 12th (Section 2)

Begay takes the top spot with a win over Hoffmeyer, and Arriola moves down and beat Brookins in his 195 pound debut.

220
1. Luke Padwe, Pinnacle, 12th (Section 2)
2. Nathaniel Deasey, Chandler, 11th (Section 1)
3. David Palosika, Mountain Pointe, 12th (Section 3)
4. William Durbin, Dobson, 10th (Section 4)
5. James Huber, Mesa Mountain View, 11th (Section 4)
6. Jackson Kay, Boulder Creek, 12th (Section 2)
7. Julius Thomas, Red Mountain, 12th (Section 4)
8. Vincente Maestes, Liberty, 12th (Section 2)

285
1. Jacob Moore, Boulder Creek, 11th (Section 2)
2. Alex Edjourian, Perry, 12th (Section 1)
3. Dante Smith, Desert Ridge, 12th (Section 3)
4. Gregory Down, Cesar Chavez, 12th (Section 4)
5. Frank Thompson, Liberty, 12th (Section 2)
6. Carson McNutt, Shadow Ridge, 11th (Section 3)

OK, since someone ask I went a head and made this via last years AIA D1 State Track Wrestling Results. PLEASE note that these are weight classes from last season, I have updated their Grade Level; that said I believe a lot of these kids will be moving up in class. Please Updated under New Thread - I will not be managing/updating these Ranking.

D1 2019-2020 Individual Rankings (Preseason)

I'll update purely based on finishes from state tournament last year, and I'll add comments in blue. Obviously people will be moving weights but predicting where they end up is nearly impossible. If someone didn't have any notable wins during the year that I'm aware of, or didn't win at least 2 matches at state, I probably won't include them just for the sake of filling out the top 6. After the people listed in the thinner weights, there are probably 10 guys who are comparable that would be hard to logically rank.

D2-106

1 Zander Phaturos LIBE, 44-6, 10th, D1-S2 1st, 2nd State
2 Cesar Avelar BRPR, 47-9, 10th, D1-S1 1st, 3rd State
3 Demarko Gomez CIBO, 33-10, 10th, D1-S2 2nd, 4th State
4 John Jarman MESA, 51-7, 10th, D1-S4 2nd, 5th State
5 Janthony Vega SALU, 17-8, 10th, D1-S2 3rd, 6th State
6 Peyton Anderson MVM, 31-8, 11th, D1-S4 3rd, Blood Round State
7 Caidan Cole, BOCR, 44-14, 10th, D1-S2 4th, Blood Round State
HM Murphy DeMara REMO, 45-8, 11th D1-S4 4th
HM Daniel Mendoza PERR, 27-17, 12th D1-S1 4th

Have heard DeMara might not be wrestling this year, but obviously won't know until the season starts. Duran from Cesar Chavez is tough but didn't qualify for the state tournament so not including him.

D2-113

1 Zach Espalin CHAN, 37-2, 11th, D1-S1 1st, 1st State
2 Carson Coy LIBE, 40-4, 10th, D1-S2 1st, 2nd State
3 Juan Sierra CIBO, 36-4, 10th, D1-S2 2nd, 3rd State
4 Anthony Gonzales, CDS, 43-9, 12th, D1-S3 1st, 6th State
5 Noah Kasprowicz, BOCR, 51-10, 11th, D1-S2 3rd, Blood Round State

I think you just mixed up Gonzales and Sanchez in your rankings. I'd expect Espalin (wrestled 120 in Fargo) and Coy (wrestled 132 at Freakshow) to be up at least a weight.

D2-120

1 Andres Avelar CECH, 20-1, 12th, D1-S4 1st, 2nd State
2 Jonathon Rogers LIBE, 23-7, 10th, D1-S2 1st, 3rd State
3 Caleb Pool TUCS, 36-7, 11th, D1-S1 1st, 4th State
4 Jaxon Rohde BOCR, 45-15, 12th, D1-S2 3rd, 6th State
5 Raul Aispuro KOFA, 26-10, 12th, D1-S2 2nd

Gomez graduated last year. Roman Provenzano from Goldwater transferred to Liberty and will probably be in one of these weights (assuming there is a good spot for him, they're obviously loaded).

D2-126

1 Isaiah Valenzuela HAMI, 22-5, 12th, D1-S1 2nd, 2nd State
2 Tyler Sauter LIBE, 44-12, 10th, D1-S2 2nd, 5th State
3 Bryce Bernard VAVI, 34-8, 12th, D1-S3 1st, Blood Round State

D2-132

1 Jonah Muhammad HAMI, 40-8, 11th, D1-S1, 2nd State
2 Andrew Correa LIBE, 36-10, 12th, D1-S2 1st, 5th State
3 Mourece Ramirez DEVI, 33-13, 11th, D1-S3 1st, 6th State

D2-138

1 Edgar Delgado LIBE, 32-13, 12th, D1-S2 1st, 6th State
2 Shane Aguarin CDS, 39-10, 12th, D1-S3 2nd, Blood Round State
3 Adam Booth MVM, 47-12, 11 D1-S4 3rd

Fernandez is at Combs now, so I removed him

D2-145

1 Alfonso Martinez DEVI, 43-1, 12th, D1-S3 1st, 1st State
2 Collin McCorkle LIBE, 45-8, 11th, D1-S2 1st, 2nd State
3 Gio Meza CECH, 23-5, 12th, D1-S4 2nd, 3rd State
4 Connor Blakeman REMO, 43-9, 12th, D1-S4 1st, 4th State
5 Matt Andonov SDO, 40-12, 12th, D1-S2 4th, 6th State

D2-152

1 Zeke Guerrero CIBO, 47-5, 12th, D1-S2 1st, 2nd State
2 Kamyn Stonebraker LIBE, 37-8, 12th, D1-S2 2nd, 3rd State
3 Anthony Morales KOFA, 34-15, 12th, D1-S2 3rd, 4th State

D2-160

1 Preston Cameau DEVI, 40-7, 12th, D1-S3 1st, 1st State
2 Freddy Latu HAMI, 43-9, 12th, D1-S1 1st, 3rd State
3 Gage Beaton LIBE, 18-13, 12th, D1-S2 4th, 6th State
4 Sebastian Valencia CIBO, 26-14, 12th, D1-S2 3rd, Blood Round State

D2-170

1 Matthew Stevenson LIBE, 42-5, 12th, D1-S2 1st, 3rd State
2 Justin Prigge QUCR, 43-12, 12th, D1-S3 3rd, 4th State
3 Yousef Sadi TUCS, 31-13, 11 D1-S1 2nd, Blood Round State

D2-182

1 Liam Hoffmeyer CIBO, 36-10, 11th, D1-S2 1st, 2nd State
2 Makai Obregon VAVI, 36-5, 12th, D1-S3 1st, 4th State
3 Thomas Derr BRPR, 42-14, 12th, D1-S1 3rd, 5th State
4 Wayne Dunn MVM, 45-13, 12th, D1-S4 2nd, 6th State
5 Alex Galindo CECH, 8-2, 12th, D1-S4 1st, Blood Round State
6 Michael Moreno BOCR, 45-15, 12th, D1-S2 2nd

There was a kid named Cesar Pedregon at Freakshow who moved here from Colorado, that I was told will be going to Red Mountain. He pinned Derr at Freakshow so imagine he will be a factor at this weight.

D2-195

1 Elijah Sobas CHAN, 19-6, 11th, D1-S1 3rd, 3rd State

Well, this weight certainly cleared out. I'd be looking to bump up if I was at 182. I have heard that Sobas is now at Hamilton, and that Kimball Begay, state champ last year from Page, is now at Mountain View.

D2-220

1 Nathaniel Deasey CHAN, 42-4, 11th, D1-S1 1st, 1st State
2 Luke Padwe PINN, 44-3, 12th, D1-S2 1st, 2nd State
3 David Palosika MOPO, 54-2, 12th, D1-S3 1st, 3rd State
4 Marcos Meza CIBO, 30-14, 11 D1-S2 3rd, 5th State
5 Bobby Brookins REMO, 27-26, 12th, D1-S4 4th, 6th State
6 James Huber MVM, 34-17, 11th, D1-S4 2nd

I assume Palosika to stay at this weight because he wrestled there at Super 32, but I'd think at least one of the other top 3 guys would move up.

D2-285

1 Jacob Moore BOCR, 52-8, 11th, D1-S2 1st, 6th State
2 Frank Thompson LIBE, 14-12, 12th, D1-S2 3rd, Blood Round State

I heard Nick Steele from San Pasqual transfered to Cibola. Probably wrestling 160. Can anyone confirm this? 2 time state champion and Virginia Beach champion should make things very entertaining in Div. 1.

Thanks. Saw him wrestle against KOFA and Liberty last week at Pinnacle. Great kid and definitely the real deal on the mat. ASU better not let this kid get away! Also the Stevenson kid from liberty looked like the real deal too.

D1 2019-2020 Individual Rankings (updated 12/11)

Disclaimer, just ranking everyone at the weights that they have competed at this year. Obviously some people will move around come January. I realize there are some kids who are probably undefeated so far, but I’m only really ranking guys at this point who have either done well previous year(s) or have had notable individual wins this year. Therefore, some weights will only have a few guys and some might have a lot. It will be easier to fill out the top 6-8 guys in a few weeks when we are a little deeper into the tournament schedule.

106
1. Caidan Cole, Boulder Creek, 10th
2. Javier Duran, Cesar Chavez, 12th
3. Damian Moreno, Kofa, 9th
4. Jayson Flener, Liberty, 9th

Always a hard weight to figure out early in the season because there are usually a good amount of tough freshmen. Janthony Vega (6th last year at state) hasn't wrestled yet from what I can tell, so he will jump right in the mix when he competes this year.

113
1. Zander Phaturos, Liberty, 10th
2. Julian Ayala, Kofa, 10th
3. Demarko Gomez, Cibola, 10th
4. Peyton Anderson, Mesa Mountain View, 11th

120
1. Cesar Avelar, Brophy, 10th
2. Anthony Gonzales, Corona, 12th
3. John Jarman, Mesa, 11th
4. Noah Kasprowicz, Boulder Creek, 11th
5. Nathan Bigelow, Chandler, 11th

126
1. Zach Espalin, Chandler, 11th
2. Juan Sierra, Cibola, 10th
3. Jonathon Rogers, Liberty, 10th
4. Jaxon Rohde, Boulder Creek, 12th
5. Bryce Bernard, Valley Vista, 12th
6. Cael Figueroa, Highland, 12th

132
1. Carson Coy, Liberty, 10th
2. Isaiah Valenzuela, Hamilton, 12th
3. Mourece Ramirez, Desert Vista, 11th

Surprisingly not a lot of depth here for a usually tough weight.

138

1. Andres Avelar, Cesar Chavez, 12th
2. Ben Torres, Cibola, 12th
3. Andrew Correa, Liberty, 12th
4. Caleb Pool, Tucson, 11th
5. Mark Prado, Shadow Ridge, 12th

Prado is kind of a wild card here since he unexpectedly didn't compete in the postseason last year. I personally think he might be the best guy in this weight behind Avelar, but I'm keeping him below the returning state placers (and Torres, who beat Correa) until he wrestles another one of the top guys.

145
1. Tyler Sauter, Liberty, 10th
2. Dalton Loyden, Chandler, 9th
3. Matthew Andonov, Sandra Day O'Connor, 12th
4. Denton Hardt, Queen Creek, 12th
5. Jonah Muhammad, Hamilton, 11th
6. Shane Aguarin, Corona, 12th
7. Adam Booth, Mesa Mountain View, 12th

Sauter seems to be the guy to beat here, but realistically any of these guys could compete for the title in February.

152

1. Anfonso Martinez, Desert Vista, 12th
2. Zeke Guerrero, Cibola, 12th
3. Anthony Morales, Kofa, 12th
4. Connor Blakeman, Red Mountain, 12th
5. Gage Beaton, Liberty, 12th
6. Chayce Edwards, Tucson, 12th

160

1. Nicholas Steele, Cibola, 11th
2. Collin McCorkle, Liberty, 11th
3. Giovanni Meza, Cesar Chavez, 12th

Will be interesting to see what happens here and at 170 at Liberty. I've heard that Mccorkle and Stonebreaker are certified here. So I imagine one will start here and one will bump to 170, which would knock out Magri who has been wrestling well from the results I've seen.

170

1. Preston Cameau, Desert Vista, 12th
2. Kamyn Stonebreaker, Liberty, 12th
3. Justin Prigge, Queen Creek, 12th
4. Sebastian Valencia, Cibola, 12th
5. David Sweetman, Brophy, 9th
6. Ikaika Maldonado, Perry, 12th

182

1. Matthew Stevenson, Liberty, 12th
2. Makai Obregon, Valley Vista, 12th
3. Thomas Derr, Brophy, 12th
4. Cesar Pedregon, Red Mountain, 12th
5. Freddy Latu, Hamilton, 12th

There are some good guys after these but they all have some losses that make them hard to rank. Dunn (MVM) placed 6th last year but has losses to multiple Perry guys (one of which he avenged). Sadi (Tucson) lost to an even different Perry guy. Galindo (Cesar Chavez) is tough but got pinned by Basha. Hopefully things clear up here in the next few weeks.

195

1. Kimball Begay, Mesa Mountain View, 12th
2. Bobby Brookins, Red Mountain, 12th
3. Rueben Maldonado, Cesar Chavez, 12th
4. Brendan Gable, Liberty, 12th

Have Begay first here because he's undefeated and returning state champ (D4), but all these guys are probably pretty close. There are probably some other people that will surface here in the next few weeks. I feel like if you're at 182 or 220, getting to this weight would be a wise option considering the depth at those weights and the lack thereof at this one. I don't know much about Gable, but he's on Liberty and is 14-1 so he he's probably pretty tough.

220

1. Nathaniel Deasey, Chandler, 11th
2. Luke Padwe, Pinnacle, 12th
3. David Palosika, Mountain Pointe, 12th
4. Liam Hoffmeyer, Cibola, 11th
5. William Durbin, Dobson, 10th
6. James Huber, Mesa Mountain View, 11th
7. Jackson Kay, Boulder Creek, 12th
8. Julius Thomas, Red Mountain, 12th

Pretty deep especially for a bigger weight class. Heard Sobas (now at Hamilton) will be here as well when/if he recovers from a football injury.

285

1. Jacob Moore, Boulder Creek, 11th
2. Marcos Meza, Cibola, 12th
3. Alex Edjourian, Perry, 12th

Frank Thompson of Liberty will be up there in this weight as well, but hasn't competed yet because of football so leaving him off for right now.

5. Gage Beaton, Liberty, 12th
6. Chayce Edwards, Tucson, 12th

160

1. Nicholas Steele, Cibola, 11th
2. Collin McCorkle, Liberty, 11th
3. Giovanni Meza, Cesar Chavez, 12th

Will be interesting to see what happens here and at 170 at Liberty. I've heard that Mccorkle and Stonebreaker are certified here. So I imagine one will start here and one will bump to 170, which would knock out Magri who has been wrestling well from the results I've seen.

170

1. Preston Cameau, Desert Vista, 12th
2. Kamyn Stonebreaker, Liberty, 12th
3. Justin Prigge, Queen Creek, 12th
4. Sebastian Valencia, Cibola, 12th
5. David Sweetman, Brophy, 9th
6. Ikaika Maldonado, Perry, 12th

182

1. Matthew Stevenson, Liberty, 12th
2. Makai Obregon, Valley Vista, 12th
3. Thomas Derr, Brophy, 12th
4. Cesar Pedregon, Red Mountain, 12th
5. Freddy Latu, Hamilton, 12th

There are some good guys after these but they all have some losses that make them hard to rank. Dunn (MVM) placed 6th last year but has losses to multiple Perry guys (one of which he avenged). Sadi (Tucson) lost to an even different Perry guy. Galindo (Cesar Chavez) is tough but got pinned by Basha. Hopefully things clear up here in the next few weeks.

195

1. Kimball Begay, Mesa Mountain View, 12th
2. Bobby Brookins, Red Mountain, 12th
3. Rueben Maldonado, Cesar Chavez, 12th
4. Brendan Gable, Liberty, 12th

Have Begay first here because he's undefeated and returning state champ (D4), but all these guys are probably pretty close. There are probably some other people that will surface here in the next few weeks. I feel like if you're at 182 or 220, getting to this weight would be a wise option considering the depth at those weights and the lack thereof at this one. I don't know much about Gable, but he's on Liberty and is 14-1 so he he's probably pretty tough.

220

1. Nathaniel Deasey, Chandler, 11th
2. Luke Padwe, Pinnacle, 12th
3. David Palosika, Mountain Pointe, 12th
4. Liam Hoffmeyer, Cibola, 11th
5. William Durbin, Dobson, 10th
6. James Huber, Mesa Mountain View, 11th
7. Jackson Kay, Boulder Creek, 12th
8. Julius Thomas, Red Mountain, 12th

Pretty deep especially for a bigger weight class. Heard Sobas (now at Hamilton) will be here as well when/if he recovers from a football injury.

285

1. Jacob Moore, Boulder Creek, 11th
2. Marcos Meza, Cibola, 12th
3. Alex Edjourian, Perry, 12th

Frank Thompson of Liberty will be up there in this weight as well, but hasn't competed yet because of football so leaving him off for right now.
Sobas will be at 195 when he returns

D1 2019-2020 Individual Rankings (updated after 12/18 matches)

Should be some shakeups after Moon Valley this weekend, which is the first tournament that a lot of the better D1 schools are attending.

106

1. Javier Duran, Cesar Chavez, 12th
2. Caidan Cole, Boulder Creek, 10th
3. Damian Moreno, Kofa, 9th
4. Jayson Flener, Liberty, 9th
5. Daniel Mendoza, Perry, 12th

Moving Cole down a spot after a 9-2 loss in finals of the Husky Invite, but still think him and Duran is a tossup. Mendoza moves down to 106 and should do better at this weight.

113
1. Zander Phaturos, Liberty, 10th
2. Julian Ayala, Kofa, 10th
3. Demarko Gomez, Cibola, 10th
4. Gabriel Corrales, Desert Ridge, 9th
5. Peyton Anderson, Mesa Mountain View, 11th

Corrales enters the rankings after winning the Coyote Open and with a convincing win over Anderson.

120
1. Noah Kasprowicz, Boulder Creek, 11th
2. Cesar Avelar, Brophy, 10th
3. Anthony Gonzales, Corona, 12th
4. John Jarman, Mesa, 11th
5. Nathan Bigelow, Chandler, 11th

Kasprowicz moves to the top spot with a major decision over Avelar.

126
1. Zach Espalin, Chandler, 11th
2. Juan Sierra, Cibola, 10th
3. Jonathon Rogers, Liberty, 10th
4. Jaxon Rohde, Boulder Creek, 12th
5. Bryce Bernard, Valley Vista, 12th
6. Cael Figueroa, Highland, 12th

132
1. Carson Coy, Liberty, 10th
2. Isaiah Valenzuela, Hamilton, 12th
3. Mourece Ramirez, Desert Vista, 11th
4. Raul Aispuro, Kofa, 12th
5. Tanner Castillo, Red Mountain, 12th
6. Ben Goettl, Brophy, 12th

Honestly, I just added 4-6 just to not have to look at only 3 guys in what would normally be a deep weight. Think they're as good as anyone else I've seen at this weight even though none of them have any results that stand out.

138
1. Andres Avelar, Cesar Chavez, 12th
2. Ben Torres, Cibola, 12th
3. Andrew Correa, Liberty, 12th
4. Caleb Pool, Tucson, 11th
5. Domenic Hurtado, Desert Vista, 11th
6. Mark Prado, Shadow Ridge, 12th

145
1. Zeke Guerrero, Cibola, 12th
2. Tyler Sauter, Liberty, 10th
3. Dalton Loyden, Chandler, 9th
4. Matthew Andonov, Sandra Day O'Connor, 12th
5. Denton Hardt, Queen Creek, 12th
6. Jonah Muhammad, Hamilton, 11th
7. Shane Aguarin, Corona, 12th
8. Adam Booth, Mesa Mountain View, 12th

Well, this weight just keeps getting deeper with Guerrero moving down.

152
1. Alfonso Martinez, Desert Vista, 12th
2. Anthony Morales, Kofa, 12th
3. Connor Blakeman, Red Mountain, 12th
4. Gage Beaton, Liberty, 12th
5. Chayce Edwards, Tucson, 12th
6. Kalvin Boggs, Queen Creek, 12th

160
1. Nicholas Steele, Cibola, 11th
2. Collin McCorkle, Liberty, 11th
3. Giovanni Meza, Cesar Chavez, 12th
4. Jacob Cisneros, Boulder Creek, 11th

Adding Cisneros who looks to be having a good season, with his only loss to Mccorkle.

170
1. Preston Cameau, Desert Vista, 12th
2. Kamyn Stonebreaker, Liberty, 12th
3. Justin Prigge, Queen Creek, 12th
4. Sebastian Valencia, Cibola, 12th
5. Ikaika Maldonado, Perry, 12th
6. David Sweetman, Brophy, 9th

Switching Maldonado and Sweetman just based on Maldonado having the most recent victory between them.

182
1. Matthew Stevenson, Liberty, 12th
2. Makai Obregon, Valley Vista, 12th
3. Thomas Derr, Brophy, 12th
4. Freddy Latu, Hamilton, 12th
5. Caleb Milnes, Perry, 11th
6. Cesar Pedregon, Red Mountain, 12th
7. Wayne Dunn, Mesa Mountain View, 12th

Adding Dunn who was a placer last year and looks to be wrestling better after a few early season losses.

195
1. Kimball Begay, Mesa Mountain View, 12th
2. Bobby Brookins, Red Mountain, 12th
3. Rueben Maldonado, Cesar Chavez, 12th
4. Michael Moreno, Boulder Creek, 12th
5. Brendan Gable, Liberty, 12th
6. Christian Bower, Chaparral, 12th

Adding Bower who had Begay on the ropes early in their match before being pinned, and who had a close loss to Moreno.

220
1. Liam Hoffmeyer, Cibola, 11th
2. Nathaniel Deasey, Chandler, 11th
3. Luke Padwe, Pinnacle, 12th
4. David Palosika, Mountain Pointe, 12th
5. William Durbin, Dobson, 10th
6. James Huber, Mesa Mountain View, 11th
7. Jackson Kay, Boulder Creek, 12th
8. Ryan Castillo, Hamilton, 12th

285
1. Jacob Moore, Boulder Creek, 11th
2. Marcos Meza, Cibola, 12th
3. Frank Thompson, Liberty, 12th
4. Alex Edjourian, Perry, 12th

Adding Thompson who is back now that football is done.

220 rankings after this weekend should be interesting. Padwe and Deasey are seeded #1 and #2 respectively in Las Vegas Holiday Classic. Hopefully both make it through to finals. Cibola has a team at the Las Vegas Tourney but Hoffmeyer not wrestling - Cibola has wrestlers in every weight class but 220. Would have been interesting with him in the mix.

Definitely would have been good to see how that shook out, but looks like quite a few of the Cibola guys are unfortunately banged up. Word is that Hoffmeyer isn't very big (not surprising as he was a 182 last year) so would be interested to see if he ends up at 197 in the second part of the year. It would definitely make sense but it's Arizona wrestling, so making sense doesn't really mean much ;)

D1 2019-2020 Individual Rankings (updated on 12/24)

Definitely a good amount of updates after Moon Valley and with people starting to shift down. Full disclaimer, I have no clue how to rank the Liberty guys because they have so many tough kids in the same weights. I imagine they will end up shifting down and looking like Rogers @ 120, Coy @ 126, Correa @132, Sauter @ 138, Delgado back up @ 145, McCorkle down @ 152, Stonebreaker @160 but who really knows. That seems like the best way to get their best guys in the lineup, but I don't know certified where and who can go what weights. For now, I'll just rank guys at the weights that they've wrestled and move them accordingly when/if they move.

106

1. Javier Duran, Cesar Chavez, 12th
2. Caidan Cole, Boulder Creek, 10th
3. Damian Moreno, Kofa, 9th
4. Jayson Flener, Liberty, 9th
5. Daniel Mendoza, Perry, 12th
6. Marcus Seiter, Dobson, 9th

Adding Seiter based on his finish at Moon Valley, open to other suggestions as this is always a hard weight to rank because of so many young guys without previous results.

113
1. Zander Phaturos, Liberty, 10th
2. Julian Ayala, Kofa, 10th
3. Demarko Gomez, Cibola, 10th
4. Gabriel Corrales, Desert Ridge, 9th
5. Peyton Anderson, Mesa Mountain View, 11th
6. Joey Jarman, Mesa, 9th

Adding Jarman after Moon Valley.

120
1. Zach Espalin, Chandler, 11th
2. Noah Kasprowicz, Boulder Creek, 11th
3. Cesar Avelar, Brophy, 10th
4. Anthony Gonzales, Corona, 12th
5. John Jarman, Mesa, 11th
6. Nathan Bigelow, Chandler, 11th

Espalin moves down and Kasp continues his recent tear with Moon Valley title in what was probably the toughest weight at that tournament.

126
1. Juan Sierra, Cibola, 10th
2. Jonathon Rogers, Liberty, 10th
3. Bryce Bernard, Valley Vista, 12th
4. Jaxon Rohde, Boulder Creek, 12th
5. Cael Figueroa, Highland, 12th

Everyone shifts up and Bernard/Rohde switch after convincing head-to-head victory by Bernard.

132
1. Andres Avelar, Cesar Chavez, 12th
2. Carson Coy, Liberty, 10th
3. Isaiah Valenzuela, Hamilton, 12th
4. Mourece Ramirez, Desert Vista, 11th
5. Raul Aispuro, Kofa, 12th
6. Tanner Castillo, Red Mountain, 12th

Avelar moving down is obviously the major change here. Correa is down at this weight too and was the Liberty A team guy at Vegas (despite Coy being better IMHO), so I think that hints at him ending up here and Coy probably going down.

138
1. Tyler Sauter, Liberty, 10th
2. Ben Torres, Cibola, 12th
3. Caleb Pool, Tucson, 11th
4. Denton Hardt, Queen Creek, 12th
5. Domenic Hurtado, Desert Vista, 11th
6. Mark Prado, Shadow Ridge, 12th

Sauter and Hardt moved down here at the Vegas Holiday Classic.

145
1. Zeke Guerrero, Cibola, 12th
2. Dalton Loyden, Chandler, 9th
3. Matthew Andonov, Sandra Day O'Connor, 12th
4. Jonah Muhammad, Hamilton, 11th
5. Tlayolot Delfin, Dobson, 12th
6. Shane Aguarin, Corona, 12th
7. Adam Booth, Mesa Mountain View, 12th

Delfin with a win over Aguarin and a close loss to Delgado, who I'd expect to be back up at this weight for the new year.

152
1. Alfonso Martinez, Desert Vista, 12th
2. Anthony Morales, Kofa, 12th
3. Connor Blakeman, Red Mountain, 12th
4. Gage Beaton, Liberty, 12th
5. Chayce Edwards, Tucson, 12th
6. Kalvin Boggs, Queen Creek, 12th

Didn't see anything over the weekend to warrant changing any of these. Valencia has been at 160 for Cibola, so I'm expecting Steele to be at 152 when he comes back from injury. I also wouldn't be surprised to see McCorkle here after the new year, but I'm not sure like I alluded to above. That sure would make for a tough top 3 at this weight, but I'm leaving them both off until they are actually at this weight (or not at this weight).

160

1. Kamyn Stonebreaker, Liberty, 12th
2. Giovanni Meza, Cesar Chavez, 12th
3. Sebastian Valencia, Cibola, 12th
4. Jacob Cisneros, Boulder Creek, 11th

Imagine there are some solid guys I'm overlooking here but these are the only ones that jump out at me.

170
1. Preston Cameau, Desert Vista, 12th
2. Ikaika Maldonado, Perry, 12th
3. David Sweetman, Brophy, 9th
4. Justin Prigge, Queen Creek, 12th
5. Nicholas Magri, Liberty

I think Maldonado is a clear #2 after his impressive Vegas performance. The others are hard to rank and are all pretty close, but put Sweetman at 3 based on the fact that he's split matches with Maldonado this year.

182
1. Matthew Stevenson, Liberty, 12th
2. Makai Obregon, Valley Vista, 12th
3. Thomas Derr, Brophy, 12th
4. Freddy Latu, Hamilton, 12th
5. Caleb Milnes, Perry, 11th
6. Cesar Pedregon, Red Mountain, 12th
7. Wayne Dunn, Mesa Mountain View, 12th

Didn't see much that changes any of this this weekend.

195
1. Kimball Begay, Mesa Mountain View, 12th
2. Bobby Brookins, Red Mountain, 12th
3. Rueben Maldonado, Cesar Chavez, 12th
4. Michael Moreno, Boulder Creek, 12th
5. Gavin Dodge, Liberty, 10th
6. Christian Bower, Chaparral, 12th

I replaced Gable with Dodge who had a much better showing in Vegas. This weight is really hard to rank as none of these guys have wrestled each other. I think they're all probably pretty closely matched.

220
1. Luke Padwe, Pinnacle, 12th
2. Liam Hoffmeyer, Cibola, 11th
3. Nathaniel Deasey, Chandler, 11th
4. David Palosika, Mountain Pointe, 12th
5. Preston Arriola, Mesa, 12th
6. William Durbin, Dobson, 10th
7. James Huber, Mesa Mountain View, 11th
8. Jackson Kay, Boulder Creek, 12th
9. Ryan Castillo, Hamilton, 12th

Obviously moving Padwe to the top spot after pinning Deasey in the finals at Vegas. Adding Arriola who dominated Kay before falling in a close match to Palosika in the finals at Moon Valley. Arriola also has an impressive win earlier in the year over Acedo from Marana Mountain View.

285
1. Jacob Moore, Boulder Creek, 11th
2. Alex Edjourian, Perry, 12th
3. Frank Thompson, Liberty, 12th
4. Marcos Meza, Cibola, 12th

Reordered 2-4 based on their finishes at Vegas.
