These predictions (For entertainment purposes only) are based on the data we currently have. Just looking at State Placers. The sections are about as balanced as they have ever been.
Section 1 - 18 Placers, Section 2 - 22 Placers, Section 3 - 24 Placers Section, 4 - 22 Placers
For next year I’m looking at the top 11 teams that placed at State, what they return (Varsity) in the light weights (106-152) & bigger weights (160-HWT) Again it’s my belief that most of the time the big weights decide it.
1-Corona returns 6 starters, 5 state qualifiers & 4 state placers. (Two 1st & two 3rds) 1 big
2-Sunnyside returns 8 state qualifiers & 6 state placers, (Three 1st, one 2nd, one 3rd & one 4th) 3 bigs
3-Cibola returns 8 starters, 7 state qualifiers & 4 state placers. (One 1st,2nd, 3rd & 4th) 5 bigs
4-Desert Vista returns 9 starters, 5 state qualifiers & 2 state placers. (One 4th & 5th) 3 bigs
5-Mtn View (Mesa) returns 9 starters, 6 state qualifiers & 2 state placers. (One 2nd & 5th) 5 bigs
6-Tucson returns 7 starters, 3 state qualifiers & 2 state placers. (Two 2nd) 2 bigs
7-Basha returns 7 starters, 5 state qualifiers & 3 state placers. (One 3rd, & two 4th) 2 bigs
8-Kofa returns 9 starters, 7 state qualifiers & 4 state placers. (3rd two 5th & one 6th) 3 bigs
9-Mtn Ridge returns 6 & 2 state qualifiers.
10-Skyline returns 3 starters & 1 state qualifier. 1 big
11-Desert Ridge returns 12 starters, 9 state qualifiers & 1 state placer. 5 bigs
So here goes with my pre-preseason top 10. Desert Ridge could be the dark horse with 12 returning starters.
1- Sunnyside
2- Cibola
3- Corona
4- Desert Vista
5- Mtn View (Mesa)
6- Kofa
7- Desert Ridge
8- Basha
9- Tucson
10-Mtn Ridge
Sunnyside has to be the favorite with what they have coming back. The concern has to be the bigger weights. They lose 5 seniors. Cibola has a lot coming back especially the bigger weights. Their challenge will be to fill the lighter weights. They only lose 3 seniors. Corona will be there but they lose 8 seniors & have only 1 big guy coming back.
Desert Vista, Mtn View (Mesa), Kofa & Desert Ridge seem to have the pieces to make a big push. They are young though & unproven but they do have a lot returning.
