New Club in Phoenix - Andalusia Wrestling Club

It is my pleasure to announce the formation of the Andalusia Wrestling Club!

The Andalusia Wrestling Club is named in honor of the Andalusia region of Spain, in which you will find the famous Alhambra Castle. By tying the club to the region, we are welcoming all boys and girls in the region to be a part of the club.

Who can join?

All boys and girls ages 5-17 are welcome to join.

Who are the coaches?

The Andalusia Wrestling Club is run under the direction of John Crandall, who is also the head coach of Alhambra High School. John has over 20 years of coaching experience in California, Virginia, New York, and Florida; he has served as an assistant and head coach at the high school and college level and has learned from Hall of Fame coaches and wrestlers.

We are looking for coaches! If you are interested in coaching, contact Coach Crandall for details.

What do I need to join?

The club entry fee is $25 to help offset costs. All wrestlers will also need to fill out a permission slip and show proof of a physical and health insurance. You will also need to get a USA Wrestling Card, which can be purchased at www.usawmembership.com. Any Phoenix Union athlete with clearance or rising 9th grader transferring to a Phoenix Union school with clearance can participate. Tournaments are typically held on Saturdays, and entry fees typically run around $15-20.

It is highly recommended that you purchase wrestling shoes, especially if you intend to compete. They can be purchased online, or at Big 5 or Dick’s Sporting Goods. It is also recommended that you buy a singlet and headgear.

What will be taught?

We will be teaching all three styles of wrestling – folkstyle, freestyle, and Greco-Roman.

What time?

All spring wrestling clubs will begin the week of February 24. The youth club (ages 5-12) will meet Monday and Wednesday 6-8pm. Middle and High School (ages 12-17) will meet Tuesday and Thursday 6-8pm.

The club is located at Alhambra High School, 3839 W. Camelback Rd . Phoenix, AZ 85019. For more information contact Coach Crandall at john.crandall@rsd.k12.az.us or at 804-698-0376
