I based it on tournament team placements. Liberty placed ahead of Desert Vista at Flowing Wells. Mt. View and Desert Vista are interchangeable at 3/4.

Understood, but Desert Vista finished ahead of Liberty at the Skyline Coyote Open by a significant margin. I think a lot of it comes down to brackets, etc....Sunnyside can really cause havoc on a bracket and they were at Flowing Wells. When they are out of the equation Desert Vista is a better team from top to bottom, IMO. Liberty is solid, don't get me wrong, but Desert Vista has quite a bit of talent this year. It'll come down to who is healthy and seeding at States. I'm predicting DV, Liberty, and Sunnyside will all be Sectional Team Champs.

Liberty was missing a 106 lber and a HWT at skyline. And considering the fact that those two wrestlers scored 66 points at Flowing Wells by themselves--puts them ahead of DV.

Plus, that Skyline is a watered down tournament. After Sauharita, DV and Liberty, no serious contender was there.

We do know that Sunnyside WILL be at the state tournament, and cause havoc on everyone's bracket. ;)

I agree with your section champ picks though, and add Mt. View Mesa to the mix.

From what I heard Ty Trickle from Brophy had surgery I believe on his shoulder and is not going to be back. Not sure if that is accurate, but is what I heard.

The question should be how many points Sunnyside will win by. Looking at all the tournments they've been in this year, they're well over a hundred points ahead of the competition. I know scoring is different in some regular season tournaments than in state, but I don't think this is even going to be close. I see DV/Liberty battling for second. Big gap between them and the next tier of competitors.

On "Rank Wrestler" where they tally the ranked team members against the other teams in the division, and come up with a point total on the ranking, sunnyside is 281, and second place is Desert Vista with 147 followed by Liberty with 143. Mountain View mesa and Casteel round out the top five.

I'm not exactly sure how these numbers are counted, but the sunnyside numbers include Audrey Jimenez as the #1 ranked 106lber--but she won't be wresting at boys' state. They also have both the 1st ranked (Armstrong) and 5th ranked (JV guy, cesar vasquez?) 120lbers--so the number is inflated a bit based on that--but yeah--it's gonna be a blowout.

I'm guessing they probably have a 106 backup in the room who's capable of placing so they might not even be affected.
On a Castell note, is Rustad healthy and going to be wrestling?

I have to ask why you would put Cardenas from Chandler ahead of two time undefeated nationally ranked state champ Vega from SS?

Agreed. That doesnt make sense. Has Lee from SS wrestled the Kaufman kid from MV. I watched that Kaufman kid at Salpointe. Man that kid is good.

Cardenas pushed Armstrong to overtime at Flowing Wells, which is his only loss on the year, and then bumped up to 126. Looks solid. Just an opinion. Could go either way I think.

Lee beat Kaufman 9-2 in the Peoria finals.

generate some buzz, I guess.

They're in the same section, so Saturday is going to be interesting.

Anyone know when they're going to have the sectional brackets/seeds locked in and public?

I guess we don't need to feel sorry for Sunnyside losing Jimenez for state. A guy not even listed in your rankings, wins the sectional taking out numbers 2 and 5 and finishing ahead of number 4. They do lose out on points at 112 with no one entered. What happened to Archuleta?

Yeah--I figured someone would step up. Chris Lopez wasn't ranked only because he was behind Archuleta all season at 113. I'd be intersted to know what happened to him as well. Sucks. Not like sunnyside to leave a weight class empty. Maybe a skin issue? no--cuz I think he'd still be in the bracket... but forfeit. weird.
