I don’t want to take over, Jim Ima is amazing at these rankings so I will leave up to him but wanted to throw out an early 2023-2024 team ranking preview/individual rankings. Of course, wrestlers are already at different weight classes, so more of the top returners.

Top Teams:
  1. ALA Gilbert
  2. Sahuarita
  3. Walden Grove
  4. Mica Mountain
In my opinion, ALA Gilbert and Sahuarita will be the ones to catch this season. No idea who the head coach for ALA. Tommy James is at Queen Creek and I thought Dan Gaylor would be the head coach but not sure what happened.

With that being said, ALA is loaded with seniors and has been built to be the front runners unless Sahuarita and Walden Grove can bring in some heavy hitters.

In my opinion, you can plug any coach at ALA Gilbert this year and they would be the favorite to win.

Returning:

Ala Gilbert: 111.5 points:
113 (4th)
120 (6th)
126 (4th)
144 (1st)
150 (3rd)
165 (4th)

Qualifiers
106 (2-2)
132 (2-2)
175 DNQ
190 (0-2)

I would add their 175 pounder JP McKay who beat a D2 175 state champ and a few state placers this off-season.

Sahuarita 95 points:
106 (2nd)
113 (2nd)
144 (4th)
150 (1st)

Qualifiers:
215 (0-2)

I think the younger Gallardo will come in and do some damage in the upper weights

Walden Grove 80 points:
120 (1st)
126 (1st)
144 (3rd)

Qualifiers:
106 (2-2)
113 (0-2)
165 (1-2)
285 (0-2)

Mica Mt 64 points:
120 (4th)
150 (2nd)
157 (6th)
215 (3rd)

I love it, anytime we get talking about wrestling in the off-season. I would post yours as a new thread as you are great at staying up to date and going behind the scenes and looking passed the surface level. I overlooked Mohave, they are good, they had a great year last season. Williams came back after taking a year off and Gonzales had a solid season. Brandon Clark had a very tough blood round after taking 3rd the year before. ALA brings in John Paul McKay who has an off-season wins against D2 state champ RJ Robinson (Freestyle) and a state placer from D Ridge. Anyone else you have seen come under the radar with impressive wins in D3? I have seen the younger Gallardo from Sahuarita do well against high school competition.

I'm interested to see where kids end up in weight. I know some kids who pulled a lot of weight have grown and will have to move up. Just seeing where they have wrestled post season or even preseason last year before cutting down. Then there's a few kids that I didn't see at state that really should have been there. Gabriel Enriquez (36-6) and Damien Rios (24-4) from Safford weren't at Sectionals, and neither were Angel Casillas (10-0) from MIngus or Shawn Bamba (43-2) from Peoria. Mckay could be put on this list as well, he was 26-9 before sectionals.

I thought we would get to see Angel Casillas and Pedro Mendoza in the state finals. Bamba was in the finals the year before and almost won it, I think the 44 weight would have been different with him there.

Not really familiar, yet, with who the top programs have coming in as freshman but time will tell. Transfers too, I know there were a bunch of kids who have wrestled for ALA this offseason from other school but I am not sure if they are attending or will attend ALA.
