Re: Weekend Wars 2015

There was a lot of talent here this weekend. Ryan Nava from Bayfield Colorado, Case Baughman from Bayfield Colorado, Hayden Uhler from Camp Verde, Daniel Cain from Moon Valley, Tommy Kaye from Peoria, Nathan Swwyn from Mountain Ridge, Colton LaBrant from Mountain Ridge, Gilbert Rodriquez from San Manuel, Thunderbird AZ., Holbrook AZ. and Delores Colorado brought some very tough talent as well. They produced some outstanding match ups that entertained everyone that had an opportunity to watch them masterfully at work.

There’s no doubt that these guys have been blessed with some gifts. Their incredible ability and poise under pressure continue to amaze wrestling fans everywhere and will continue to draw more fans to the sport. These guy’s possess a highly extraordinary natural ability that allows them to perform at an exceptional level. That coupled with a unique combination of fundamental soundness, grace, speed, power and an unquenchable competitive desire, they prove they will be top contenders at state and future college prospects.

If you’re a state placer please make yourself known to me so I can observe and write about you.

Thank you

Re: Weekend Wars 2015

Just a reminder that Weekend Wars is this Saturday the 25th.

Camp Verde’s Weekend Wars continue to have success. We have officially serviced over 250 teams, clubs, schools and 17,000 wrestlers. The attendance numbers have grown thus far. With the increase in numbers, the quality levels have also risen. The event has led to matches equal or tougher than those at the state level. This past weekend’s tournament was a great success, presenting many opportunities for kids to test their skills. Unbelievable! Is the best way to describe several matches. I still can’t stop thinking about it the following week. With champion-like qualities of courage, fortitude, determination, tenacity and perseverance, many wrestlers are proving that if you dedicate yourself and work hard, you will succeed.

Many other coaches/organizations are now opening their doors. This is absolutely outstanding. Needless to say, Arizona is on its way up. Congratulations to one and all. In 2015 I look forward to watching Arizona Wrestling’s quality level rise and advance to a position of excellence. With so many dedicated Coaches, parents and teams, I am confident that those participating in off-season Weekend Wars will again improve in leaps and bounds finding themselves at the top of the State podium.

Thank you

Re: Weekend Wars 2015

Many are called but few are chosen. This best describes the sport of wrestling. It is the most strong-willed and physically demanding sport ever. There are scores of athletes who have quit because they could not endure all that the sport demands. Many say that wrestling builds character but I say that it test’s your character. It challenges all those who dare to stand on the mat of honor and enter the circle of combat to compete against a formidable opponent; against a gladiator whose sole mission is to test your courage, your resilience, your tenacity and your determination. In wrestling as in life, you’re going to hit a wall where you’re exhausted frustrated and you just want to quit… It’s what you do after that moment that makes the difference. When you want to give up, it’s not about fitness, it’s about Character. Pride. Commitment. Excellence.

Re: Weekend Wars 2015

Camp Verde’s “Weekend Wars” Wrestling’s best kept secret is now out and many Coaches are bringing kids, in caravan style to take advantage of it. “The quantity and quality levels of matches are unbelievable”. “This is awesome” “Thank you, thank you, thank you for putting this on for the kids” “I had heard about this two years ago and I could kick myself for not having come sooner” This are the common phrases being made by coaches and parents attending Weekend Wars. Attendance records are unbelievable! Again hundreds flock to Camp Verde to get an opportunity to compete at Weekend wars. Many people have asked how and why because it is so unbelievable.

To begin with it took years and thousands of headaches later to accomplish all that this program has become. Being able to provide all services free of charge is a testament to those generous donors who believe that we can better ourselves as a sport through collaboration and leadership. By attending Weekend Wars these parents/coaches are taking ownership of their program and providing their kids with mat time opportunities that are rare in the off-season. At the end of the day everyone averages between 8 and 15 matches which is unparalleled. The quality of Arizona wrestling has definitely gone up another level.

This is the place for quality Folkstyle mat time during the off season. Weekend Wars attracts many serious contenders from throughout Arizona and from out of state. Anybody that’s a serious wrestler, practices and participates in summer “Mat time” as preparation for the winter season. Each wrestler who attends is given the opportunity to wrestle up to 15 matches. This is a big draw for other teams statewide, as well as teams from out of state, who face the same dilemma, which is the lack of wrestling competition. Nonstop grappling takes place on 14 mat sections and by the end of the day there is an abundance of mat burns, a few bloody noses, but a wealth of wrestling experience for each athlete that makes the trip to Camp Verde.

So I invite those of you who have not had an opportunity to participate, to come on up and join in on the fun.

Thank you

Re: Weekend Wars 2015

What began in Camp Verde as humble beginnings, (Weekend Wars) has evolved into a series of numerous spectacular Mat time Wars hosting kids from all over Arizona and kids from out of state. All the coaches are committed to nurturing at-risk youth athletes through the sport of wrestling. We recognize the value of sports in helping kids to develop a sense of independence and confidence, which promotes a positive self-image. Clearly, the sport of wrestling is an ideal platform from which to instill a sense of personal achievement, as well as to teach the value of teamwork through cooperation and competition.

So I encourage you to come on up and join in on the fun this Saturday.

Re: Weekend Wars 2015

Our vision in this organization is to help kids succeed and become leaders that will make a difference in their society. We have partnered up with 250 different clubs and schools in an effort to help youth at risk today. Our efforts have supported grandparents, who now in the twilight of their years, find themselves raising children again, single parents who are raising kids who need a male role model figure in their life and help keep them busy and off the streets.

Our dream is to provide kids with opportunities in the activity of wrestling while teaching them life success skills. Success isn't defined by the trophies our kids earn, it's the focus, discipline and perseverance the sport fosters in the youth and the life lessons it teaches them. Our philosophy is built on principles and standards that embrace integrity, respect, honesty, character, intensity, focus, discipline, goal setting, determination, perseverance, sacrifice, how to overcome challenges and sportsmanship. These are characteristics they need to be successful on the mat, in school and in the workplace. These are the traits that will help prepare them for whatever life will send their way.
I respectfully wish to give recognition to the over 250 dedicated volunteer Arizona coaches and parents. These are the guys who long before me, built the foundation needed for Camp Verde wrestling to succeed at Weekend Wars. It is on their shoulders we stand here today. I salute them.

Many ask how Weekend Wars has flourished. So again, I say, for any one man to try and take credit for this remarkable feat would be a fool. The cornerstone and foundation of this program is the Lord Jesus Christ, and it is he who I give all the glory.

Thank you,

Coach Chagolla

Re: Weekend Wars 2015

The next Weekend Wars is on September 5th. We would like parents and coaches to either ensure that all your kids sign a waiver. Please bring a copy every week. For those of you who have been asking how they can help support these weekend wars, I could really use help with refereeing and a case of water bottles. Once again thanks to all the Coaches and Parents who support this function. Many kids thanked us for putting on Weekend Wars for them. Many kids are benefiting from all our collaborative efforts as a brotherhood.

Re: Weekend Wars 2015

Just a reminder that Weekend Wars is on this Saturday.

What defines you?

• Your goals
• Your choices
• Your beliefs
• Your success
• Your Accomplishments
• Your values, like compassion, courage and integrity.
• What you invest your time in defines you.
• It’s how well you rise after falling that defines you.
• Judging a person does not define who they are. It defines you.
• Your patience when you have nothing and your attitude when you have everything, defines you.
• Your past never defines your future.
• The way you spend your time defines you.
• It doesn’t really matter who you use to be. What matters the most is who you choose to become.
• Everyone loses, it’s how you come back from those loses that define you.
• If at first you don’t succeed, trying doing what your coach told you to do the first time.

It’s not about your past. It’s about right now. It's about making a difference and following your passions. It's about connecting deeply to what you believe in, and expressing your values to others.

Re: Weekend Wars 2015

Weekend Wars was good this weekend with many kids getting up to 10 matches. Many coaches and parents expressed great satisfaction.

My friends, whatever you choose to do in life, do it with such passion that it makes other people stop and admire you for your efforts. It is true that undergoing hard work in order to achieve one's dreams makes the arrival at success even more gratifying. Have a passion for your interests, your family and your friends. Have passion in your opinions, faiths and beliefs. Do not idly sit back while everything worth living for passes you by. Nobody knows how long they’re meant to be on this earth, so if you don’t live your life to the absolute fullest, you may have more regrets than you can count. You only have one shot at living your life so don’t make it a dull one with little meaning. Fulfill your destiny, burn your boats, be leaders, free-thinkers and dreamers.
One more Weekend Wars left. September 19th will be the last one.

So come on up and join the fun. All are welcome.

Thank you

Re: Weekend Wars 2015

Wrestlers you still have one more opportunity (September 19th) to get some mat time against quality wrestlers free of charge. So come on up and feel the energy for yourself. There have been so many that have improved their skills in leaps and bounds. If you enjoy seeing great quality matches that reach beyond the barriers of School Divisions then this is the place you want to come and see some epic matches.

To be a great wrestler you must have the desire to be the best, a desire to dominate on the mat. You must have a burning passion, a commitment and dedication to excel through sacrifices that must be made. It takes a high tolerance for pain. You have to be able to put up with a lot of pain, from pushing your body to its limits.

Most athletes are not willing to sacrifice partying/drinking and the normal life for something much more rewarding. Most athletes aren’t willing to do this because they are content with fitting in and being mediocre. Weekend Warriors choose to challenge themselves and be the best that they can be.

Once again thanks to the many Arizona Coaches who attend Weekend Wars and constantly strive to provide competitive opportunities for all levels of wrestlers that are reasonably challenging, while still giving them the chance to succeed and grow to reach their full potential. In addition these coaches have an unwavering focus on development of their athletes, by providing them the support they need as they strive to become better wrestlers and human beings.

We all reap the benefits from being a part of this great wrestling Weekend Wars Community. Our numbers, our talent, and dedication have us well positioned to make this the best wrestling mat time program top to bottom that Arizona has ever seen. All are welcome and I encourage all of you to find your place, to use your energy and talents to continue to make this program great.

Thank you
Coach Chagolla

Re: Weekend Wars 2015

I would like to take this opportunity to extend our sincere gratitude to all the wrestling families that came to Weekend Wars this off-season. All your contributions, generosity, assistance and efforts did not go unnoticed. Your loyalty and dedication is the main reason why all our programs and all our student athletes achieve success.

I wish to acknowledge that this programs' success is bigger than any one individual. It is made up of over 200 volunteer Arizona coaches and parents, who unselfishly donate towards the overall success of Weekend Wars. They have been the driving force and inspiration behind many hours of playing mentor, disciplinarian and sympathetic supporter, donating their time and energy to help others in need. They are determined, highly motivated and action-oriented volunteers.

So again, I say, for any one man to try and take credit for this remarkable feat would be a fool. The cornerstone and foundation of this program is the Lord Jesus Christ, and it is he who I give all the glory.

Thank you,

The final numbers are in. Since it’s inception in 2006, Weekend Wars has provided free support to over 18,000 kids serviced over 250 Wrestling clubs, from all over Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah and California. It amazes me how popular and enormous this event has become. It’s absolutely gratifying when you see hundreds of parents and coaches get together bi-monthly and spend quality time with their kids.

With the increase in numbers, the quality levels have also risen. The event has led to matches equal or tougher than those at the state level. Again thank you to all the Coaches and parents who support this program.

Re: Weekend Wars 2015

What benefit is there for kids to drive up to Camp Verde?
This is the place for quality mat time during the off season. The tournament attracts many serious contenders from throughout Arizona and from out of state. Anybody that’s a serious wrestler, practices and participates in Summer tournaments as preparation for the Winter season. Each wrestler who attends is given the opportunity to wrestle up to five matches. This is a big draw for other teams statewide, as well as teams from out of state, who face the same dilemma, which is the lack of wrestling competition. Nonstop grappling takes place on seven mats and by the end of the day there is an abundance of mat burns, a few bloody noses, but a wealth of wrestling experience for each athlete that makes the trip to Camp Verde.

Many kids perform hours of practice throughout the week in preparation to attend New Breeds, “Weekend Wars” tournaments. Their reward is to do battle with another dedicated young champion, pushing each other to even greater heights. Kids that wish to move up another level in their wrestling skills, can ask any coach for technical advice. I guarantee before the day is over, if you wrestled against the best, they will have helped you expose the weaknesses you must work on. Many coaches and parents come together to create a motivational environment most conducive to the wrestlers success. We measure and motivate them; and so they leave here highly inspired with an attitude to excel.

Wrestlers who do not participate in our Weekend Wars, lose valuable mat time, opportunities for receiving critical technical advice, and miss out coming together with individuals from various races, economic backgrounds, and different styles of wrestling quality levels. All of this free of charge!

Everything is free. All we want is mat time for all kids. I highly recommend it to anyone that wishes to move up another level in their wrestling skills. Weigh-in starts at 7:00AM. Folkstyle Wrestling starts at 8:15 AM (three one minute periods) and usually finishes by noon. We would like parents and coaches to ensure that all your kids sign a waiver (see attached). You must bring a waiver every week.

Wrestlers- Three one minute periods of Folkstyle competition. Kindergarten thru high school. Tons of kids show up in every weight class. No lifting in the air. All wrestlers should bring their own white athletic tape and wrestling shoes. (singlet’s and head gear are optional) You must sign the attached release form. Weigh-ins start at 7:00 AM and wrestling commences at 8:15 AM. Please don’t be late as this only holds up everything.

Just a reminder, please have your wrestlers bring their own, white tape, nose plugs, band aids and med kit. I cannot afford to supply all of Arizona's medical needs. Contrary to rumors circulating. I did not receive a "Stimulus" package from Obama.

If you are using Map Quest, use 321 W Apache Trail, Camp Verde AZ 86322 as your destination.
Thank you Coach Chagolla
